LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Excess hair can significantly reduce self-confidence and impact lives extremely negatively. People regularly resort to waxing and shaving in order to get rid of unwanted hair but these methods are not only laborious and painful but the hair comes back quickly and often thicker than before. Laser hair removal offers a permanent solution to unwanted hair saving you both time and money in the long run.

Many practices in Surrey and London use ‘IPL’ which delivers poor results and also requires more sessions. Here at The Sutton Clinic, we only use the latest ‘gold standard’ technology from Syneron Candela. Our laser hair removal specialists are experienced and will achieve a ‘virtually’ pain-free hair removal for any skin type.

Our female staff are experts at intimate bikini laser hair removal and are highly trained and specialise in treating dark and Asian skin types, male clients, and female clients suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

PROCEDURE

Consultation / Test Patch
Once you arrive at The Sutton Clinic you will receive an initial consultation to determine your hair and skin type and assess whether you are suitable for treatment. We will also perform a patch test on a small area 24 hours prior to your treatment to check for suitability and skin reaction.

Treatment
Your personal laser practitioner will cleanse and possibly shave the area you have selected for the treatment. If you have any tattoos or moles these will be covered and you will be given protective eyewear. The laser machine will then be prepared, the treatment head moved over the area of skin and activated. The procedure is almost entirely pain-free; some clients say it feels similar to having an elastic band lightly snapped on the surface of the skin.

Post Treatment Advice
After the treatment, the skin may appear slightly sore or red. The laser practitioner will apply a cooling Aloe Vera gel. Any redness will soon go down and you will begin to notice the results almost immediately after your first session. You will receive a post treatment advice sheet which you need to follow. Your skin is photo sensitive after being exposed to a laser, therefore it is imperative to remember is to protect your skin by using a minimum of SPF 30 and not use any harsh chemicals on the treatment area during the course of the treatment.

THE SCIENCE:

Laser treatment affects hair in the active growth phase (anagen stage). The laser beam is made up of precisely controlled pulses of energy which are absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and reaches into the active hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, safely destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin. At any one time, 90% of follicles will be in the anagen phase, so a course of treatment is needed to ensure that all follicles are permanently affected and will not produce any more hair. Most people will need a course of between 6 and 8 treatments after which time the hair will appear visibly reduced and skin will be smooth and even.
